Legislative Activity

The "Sinkhole Mapping Act of 2025" directs the United States Geological Survey to establish a program to study the causes of sinkholes and create maps identifying areas with a higher risk of sinkhole formation. These maps, utilizing 3D elevation data, will be updated at least every five years. A website will be created to provide community planners and emergency managers with access to these maps and related information.

The "Kissimmee River Wild and Scenic River Act" amends the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to include a specific restored portion of the Kissimmee River in Florida as a recreational river. The Secretary of the Interior will manage this segment, which spans from south of Lake Kissimmee to north of Lake Okeechobee. Additionally, federal lands within the designated area are protected from new mining, leasing, and disposal activities, while respecting existing rights.

The Consumer Safety Technology Act aims to explore and utilize new technologies to enhance consumer product safety and prevent fraud. It directs the Consumer Product Safety Commission to create a pilot program for using artificial intelligence to track injury trends, find hazards, monitor recalled products, and identify unsafe imports. The Act also requires the Secretary of Commerce to study how blockchain technology can protect consumers and directs the FTC to report on unfair or deceptive practices in token transactions, ensuring the agency is equipped to address these issues.

The Venezuelan Adjustment Act allows eligible Venezuelan nationals who have been in the U.S. since December 31, 2021, to apply for lawful permanent resident status, providing a pathway to citizenship for those who meet specific requirements and pass background checks. Certain grounds for inadmissibility will not apply when determining an alien's admissibility. The Department of Homeland Security will oversee the application process, with decisions not subject to court review except for constitutional claims or questions of law. This adjustment of status does not reduce the number of immigrant visas available under existing immigration laws.

This bill directs the United States Postal Service to issue a special "Manatee Semipostal Stamp" to raise money for manatee protection. Funds from the stamp sales will go to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for manatee and habitat conservation. The stamp will be available to the public for at least two years.
